The view from inside my redone workspace

As requested yesterday, a quick snapshot of the newly setup workspace. First the long view:

And the view from my seat:

Overall, its still a work in progress, in terms of both the room in general, and my desk specifically. My hope is to keep the desk as clean and clutter free as possible, which is easy to say in the first few hours of setup, even the first few days. I can only hope this trend is maintained long term – the first twelve hours of the new, distraction free setup saw over 2k words added to the short story I’m working on (nearly done with the first draft now, which will roughly be between 3500 and 4000 words).

Speaking of which, enough distractions for me – let’s see if I can’t wrap up this draft!

  1. Thanks 🙂 Its sad but true – I’ve moved my workspace to more corners of this house than I thought possible over the years. What I’ve learned to my surprise is that when at all possible, a view of the outside really helps my concentration. Probably why the office Tim and I share is so harsh at times – the sky could be polka dotted and we’d never know it.

  2. I think outside things help to notice when one is distracted and needs to focus again. That happens to me with people walking in the corridor – I tend to notice them only when I’m not in deep coding mode.

That said – I’m making a mental note to let you know next time the sky is polka dotted again 😉
