Random tech roundup

Just three things caught my eye today worth passing on.

First up, the new Alienware curved monitor. At first glance, I thought this was cool, wow, wouldn’t it be nice to dual this baby? But when you watch the video (and maybe its just a quirk, like refresh rates or something being caught by the camera), you can actually see three distinct panels to the screen, so instead of being cool it becomes to my eyes just a really good paste job between flatscreen panels.

Next, this video from a toy hacking workshop. This is extremely inspiring. All week we’ve been shopping for toys, first for Katy’s birthday, now for Anna’s, and most toy retailers have these bins of crappy toys. Now I am tempted to go back (and maybe get some solder…)

Finally, this video from France. In the coming apocalypse, when our alien overlords remove our ability to fabricate high tech devices any more, this is the guy I want on my team. Even if I’m not smart enough to know what to do with the vacuum tubes he makes except for making a cheap radio so I can tune into the Overlord Kang and Kodos hour…

[UPDATE] – There is also a video on make.com for building your own cathode ray tubes. Now we’re getting somewhere…
