Hello, my beautiful friends

Never mind the gap in the blog posts. The last few weeks (has it been a month?) have been all about the day job, chiefly making sure that your experience at thinkgeek.com wasn’t marred because the servers were unresponsive. Not finding what you wanted, that’s someone else’s problem – getting a server error, that’s mine, and I’m happy to say that was not a problem. Of course, that meant a lot of long, long days – I don’t know that I slept much between Thanksgiving and last week, which probably explains why I passed out last Sunday and woke up bearded and hungry (Rip Van Winkle style) Tuesday.

That said, blog posts the next few weeks will be sporadic. While I’m on leave until January (sounds cool to say it that way, no?), that includes Christmas, New Years, and a trip out of state to see my folks, so not entirely a quiet time.

Writing-wise, I’m back to working on A Mountain Fell From Heaven, but the progress is slow (acceptably slow, though). The first few weeks of revisiting flew by, but I have to admit, that’s because I was just re-reading and editing what I had written previously, with minor corrections. Although still time consuming, it was a necessary step to getting my head back into the story. Now I’m at a point where the writing is all original, so the going is a bit slower as I slough my way forward. This, too, is all part of my current process – I slowly write a first draft that is as much an outline as a story skeleton. Then later, I will revisit this draft, filling in gaps, tightening language, etc. Some call this pantsing, but its really just a very longwinded form of outlining.

All right, back to administrivia for me. Till the next update!
