And now, to sleep

A brief post given the late hour, but I just had to give a quick shout out that I hit the 50k mark tonight. I will have a “real” blog post about this later (probably after T-Day) about the merits of having a voice recorder on a long commute, but the short of it is that I am closing up for the night in middle of a chapter and over the 50k mark. I’ll try and get some more words into the system before the end of the month, but I have officially met the goal of #nanowrimo.

And, as promised, we have the before and after photos!

Day 0 Day 23 [50k words later]

Look there! Transformation from a boy to a man in 23 days!! Also note the severe lack of sleep in those eyes towards the end. You saw it here first. Now. I can shave!! (or do I wait till the novel is really completed…?)

  1. Congrats bud… what software are you using to write now? I know we’ve discussed this at length before but I’m curious what you’ve settled on.

  2. Settled on scrivener (http://www.literatureandlatte.com/ – and yes, I’m on a mac now). It has a few flaws, but what doesn’t? Being able to drag scenes and text bits around (and the corkboard interface is fun too) is well worth it. Plus, it integrates pretty well with the way I work these days (same as before, btw – chaotic and narcissistic).

And I have to reluctantly agree – no shaving till the first draft is done.

  3. I thought that you might eventually go over to a Mac specifically for this reason. At least all that “pretty” is running on top of a UNIX kernel, so there’s a but of redemption there.

If Apple would release their stranglehold on the OS and let it run on any x86 system I might even consider running it on some of my spare gear. As it stands now, if I want to do any iPhone development or the like I’ll have to buy a Mac Mini and would just end up VNCing into it. (because I’m just fickle like that)

  4. “but of redemption” … (sigh)

Why oh why do I not reread things before I hit submit?! Explains why I don’t proofread for a living however… lol
