Married White Male Desperately Seeks Single Book

Yeah, that’s me, a MWM (Married White Male), desperately seeking something new to read. OK, that’s a bit unfair. There’s stacks of books around the house, and a ton of ebooks I could go through, but none of them are scratching the itch.

I need something to read. Something to escape in. I mentioned yesterday that I tried picking up Wolfsangel, but its just not hitting me right. Its a well written play on Norse mythology, with a nice nitty gritty feel to it, but it just isn’t hitting that spot for me. Part of it is the historical aspect – I’ve never been a big fan of historical fiction. That and I seem to be reaching for some kind of equilibrium in my reading habits – to paraphrase the Blues Brothers, I like both Country and Western, which is to say, both Fantasy and Science Fiction (I know, I diversify soooo much). Since the last few books I read were more on the Fantasy end of the spectrum, I’m really yearning for something of a less fantastical bent to it right now. Which is funny, really, since I prefer Space Operas, and they are about as “science fiction” as Star Wars [you can start here and here for that discussion – yes, we nerds have our standards]. Regardless, I’m more in the mood for space battles and menaces against a future society than I am historically derived fantastical fiction right now (you think that’s a mouthful to read, try thinking it).

Which brings me full circle round to: a pox upon me, I need something to read! I thought the age of digital content delivery in the flash of an eye would solve this problem. It doesn’t. It just makes it easier to flounder around. Sadly, I’m not even really looking for a recommendation. I just needed a place to vent 🙂
