Countless nights without sleep ahead. And comics.

Not feeling great today, but I made us a promise, and I’m here to keep it. Today’s word count for a story of magic and mayhem, demons and gods, is 882 new words in under 30 minutes (I know, imagine if I was up to giving this real effort, right?)

You know, it strikes me (and yes, this was totally a coincidence) – I’ve set myself up with this mock deadline of October 31st (Halloween). If I make it, I will be completely primed and ready to start all over again on November 1st, the first day of NANOWRIMO. Coincidence? Or sadistic brain exacting revenge for too much neglect? I think we both know the answer to that one. Granted, it remains to be seen if I’m up for the 1500+ words a day you need to do to finish NANOWRIMO without losing your marriage and sanity. The latter may be a forgone conclusion, but I’m rather fond of the former.

In other geek news today, I’m trying out comiXology. You know, its both awesome and scary addictive. So many comics at your disposal, and its so easy to get them. I bought a few of the refreshed DC line – the new issue of Detective Comics (of course) and I tried out Animal Man. Animal Man is…interesting. Not sure I’d like it long term, I thought this issue was kind of boring – right up to the last two or three pages where the hook for the next issue came in with a yank. Of course, growing up I was always a Marvel kid – couldn’t get enough of Spiderman, to tell the truth. But Marvel has gone so crazy in recent years (IMHO – sorry, but Spiderman – on the Fantastic Four? In a white costume? I haven’t looked back since, btw), that I’ve been ready to give something new a shot. But the local comic store only carries a few issues of current titles for non-subscribers, so they go pretty quick. Being able to read comics on the iPhone/computer (and some day, joking aside, the iPad) seemed like the logical next step. I’ve stopped buying physical books for space – why not treat comics the same?

But I digress. Its been a long day, and I’m feeling a little more than worn out. Later!
