Football and Tacos, a superbowl amusement

An amusing story for your Superbowl Sunday.

Cheese Whiz!A few weeks ago, our youngest asked if we could have tacos for dinner. As a rule, we take the kids food requests into consideration if its reasonable, since that means at least one of them won’t protest how much they hate dinner on a given night. A week passed and we had tacos.

“What’s this?”

“Tacos. Its what you asked for.”

“This isn’t what I wanted.” Pout.

“You asked for tacos.”

“But where’s the orange cheese? The cheese from the jar?”

And then it dawned on us.

“You wanted nachos, not tacos, sweetie.”

“Oh.” Disappointment was never summed up in so simple a word.

So we started talking, and the topic of the Super Bowl came up. We aren’t a big sports watching family – I mean, seriously, me? Sports? But, my wife likes watching, and traditionally we’ll put it on and try and have finger foods available. Youngest got very excited and we agreed that yes, we’ll have nachos. With the jar cheese.

Ever since, she’s been very excited about the Super Bowl. I mean, more excited than I’d expect, to see the game. So excited, in fact, that the game is beginning to be more exciting to her than the nachos. Almost. And then we had another fateful conversation.

“Why are you so excited?”

“Its my very very very favoritest sport!”

“It is?”

“I love soccer!”

Wife and I exchange a glance. Does she not realize its American football? We delicately broach the difference between football (soccer) and football (American). The wind didn’t leave her sails, but I think we’re back to just being interested in the nachos.
