Crazy, Stupid Me

I never learn. Its a proven fact that if you read through this blog (at least the post-Gentoo years), you will see the heartfelt attempt I have made to write a novel.

Well, here we go again, because crazy, stupid me can’t learn to resist the challenge. My goal is so crazy, stupid simple that even I can’t help but feel tremendous amounts of guilt if I fail to meet it. I have 30k written in a novel so far; my goal is to write at least another 30k (my minimal target for this novel is 60k, although I’d like the final draft to be closer to 90).

Just 30k more.

If I give myself until the end of October, that’s a mere 580 words a day for 50 days.

Here are the guidelines of my challenge:

  1. Writing progress is updated daily on the blog. No excuses. Even if the update is to say “nothing happened, el fin,” it still needs to be updated.
  2. Writing progress of 0 words is allowed. Stuff happens. The general goal of 500 words a day was chosen specifically because it allows for balance between the 0 word days and the 3000 word days.
  3. Only writing that progresses the word count counts – research is good, brainstorming a necessity, but only words that would be read in the first draft count.
  4. There is no number 4.
But wait, there’s more! Ping me on twitter (@kodermike) or by email (you’re all bright, you can figure out how even with the comments turned off), and join me in this madness! Because misery, she does love company. And chocolates. But not the kind with cherries, they just taste icky.
Of course, we (the clan) are on our way to a day long picnic to party like its 1993 with the old gang (and all our respective kids), but that’s what makes this both crazy and stupid, not to mention challenging 🙂
