Car Shopping

Well, its been interesting the last two days. I took my car into the shop yesterday morning knowing that I needed brakes and rotors.  Maybe tires. Hah! My little Subaru had a plethora of problems under the hood – apparently its been held together on sheer force of will, because the list of parts that it needs is daunting – as is the bill.

So we went n-used car shopping. I mean, if I have to lay out that much money at once, might as well see what the options are, right? After stopping by three used car lots, I’d already made some decisions, though.

  1. I like the Chevy Impala. Surprised me too, but it felt nice and comfortable.
  2. Car Max isn’t for me. Even on a used car, I’d like to have some kind of warranty – something more than a 5 day warranty, anyway. And yes, we were told we could get an extended warranty for a cost, but then there were forumlas relating to deductibles and a whole bunch of other horse shite that basically boiled down to, we can give you an extended warranty, but your cheap used car is going to have a lot of extra items on the bill.
  3. Today wasn’t the day to get a car. Seriously, as alluring as having a car with a working stereo is, the thought of adding an extra car payment to our monthly bills just isn’t appealing enough right now.

So here I am. Unfortunately, my car may not be ready until tomorrow afternoon. At this point I’ve worked from home for two days, and I really want to get back into the office tomorrow, but I’m not sure if that’s actually going to happen. No, this isn’t a joke, I really do like going to the office. Its been awesome working from home (I feel like I’m getting a lot more accomplished), and having lunch with Kim has been great, but I also have things I need to do back in the office that require me to physically be there.

Of course, once these repairs are done, my car will probably be good for another 160,000 miles. Maybe I’ll get the stereo replaced before then?
