Daily word count, mega-adventure, and more, oh my!

First, the mechanics. Today for Aspect Ratios, I hammered out 1146 words, which is above my minimal goal of 580 a day, though still a ways off from target.

(I will up that number if I reach 60k before Halloween, btw).

Of course, to commemorate the writing goal thing, I have added a new poll to let folks give their honest take on whether I will finish something this time. History is not working in my favor, I know, but if you are so inclined, the poll is in the sidebar, hit it!

Last night, Kim and I carried on a Saturday night tradition – watching really bad Sci-Fi movies on purpose. Megashark vs Giant Octopus was actually much better than it deserved to be, though it really could have used a lot more action between the title characters and less of that character stuff with Debbie Gibson (no offense Ms. Gibson – but we came for the shark/octopus action!). That was followed by Megapiranha, which lived up to its name, but we were thankful for the parts where Tiffany (yes, that’s right, 80’s teen music stars turned into bad SciFi movie starlets!). I was ok with the movie, even when the piranha were the size of Buicks and chomping on buildings, but at the same time, it was kind of boring. On next week’s billet we have another mega movie starring both of them, Debbie Gibson and Tiffany, in the same movie! I shudder to see what will come of Mega Python vs. Gatoroid, though we also have Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus just in case we need it (sadly, containing no recognizable 80’s pop icons). Some people groan at the thought of these movies. We just groan and laugh (its like our own private MST3K 🙂 ).

Sobering up from the antics of last night, today was a great day of fun and frolicking with the old “gang,” which at 36 means we all took our kids over to our friend Sherry’s house and watched them tire themselves out while catching up (for starters, it had been about 16 years since I’d seen Mike – guys are like that, I guess 🙂 ). Kudos to Sherry for hosting the event and drawing us all together.
