Winding down, what a week!

First, the reminder to my loyal fan (surely there’s not more than one of you??): I’m on vacation all of next weekend, including the weekend, and online access is most likely not going to exist for much if not all of it, so no posts for urgent bugs 🙂

What a week it’s been, and its only Wednesday. First there was the gwn "feature" (look, it was the best pic I could find – I loathe having my picture taken, my badges and ID prove it). That was on the wires for, oh, I’d say maybe six hours before I got some interesting mail.

Unfortunately, the first interesting mail I got I can’t talk about right now – too early to know if it will work out, what can be said, etc., but just so you are as excited as I was – I didn’t sleep Monday night at all, and spent the first few hours unable to sit still in a chair for more than a few minutes before I was hopping around like an excited 8 year old on a sugar high. And I still haven’t come down from that high. *wowzers* is my comment at the moment.

The other email I got was from a perl maintainer over at sourcemage. Personally, I’m not into bashing other distros – we all have our niche, and even if I don’t agree with everything he had to say on the subject (or other subjects for that matter), in this I agree with Michael Robertson in his LXF interview – we (distros) are about offering choices and a better community, not about whether one distro is better than the other. I mention this of course because of the somewhat inflammatory FAQ they have on Gentoo vs. SMGL. My first response (sorry if you read this and take offense Rafael) was to chuckle and dismiss it – but the thing was he was nice, even a bit complimentary (doesn’t take much with me :), and at heart I’m not a mean guy, no matter what they say around the office. But all in all it was kind of an indirectly uplifting email, mostly because I tend to spend my days thinking that only a handful of people even know gentoo has a perl tree.

I did mention that first email right? Agh, even if things don’t turn out, if there aren’t objections I will share some of it for the shear “oh wow” factor.

In other news…
I am addressing bugs still, but if you need me to comment on something, or I’m waiting on you to respond to a comment, just a friendly reminder that I leave town next Monday and won’t be back until the following Tuesday. Dont’ say I didn’t warn you first 🙂

and thus concludes perhaps another completely pointless posting to the gentoo world. ciao!
