….gentoo…

So, slashdot brought me to this and then this from Daniel on the current ‘state’ of Gentoo. I have to admit, I’d noticed that the front page hadn’t been updated in a long while, and that the newsletter seemed to have stopped being published back in October, but I’ve been enjoying retirement so much I didn’t really realize it was getting mucky over there. Now, truth told, maybe it isn’t – this wouldn’t be the first call of wolf. But another part of me suspects that it is true. I know when I left the Trustees were involved in moving the foundation so that it was under the software conservancy. But when they cut me off from being able to retrieve trustee news/mail/info (despite technically being a member of the trustees until replaced), I didn’t put up a fuss but happily got on with my life. Now it looks like the conservancy deal was never finished, which would indeed leave Gentoo in the state that Daniel asserts. Hope this works out. Would be interesting to see Gentoo under Daniel again, though I suspect that’s easier said than done (decision like this would require at least the Council to agree, and should by all rights go to the active devs for a vote, but Daniel seemed more focused on the Foundation’s role, which when I left was being considered for disbandment since it didn’t really serve a function any more other than to act as exchequer. Bah. /me will watch the wires for more info, like the rest of ya 🙂
