Popping in for a sec

Just a quick note today. I may get more time tomorrow to blog, but I’m kind of distracted right now trying to plot out my novel one step ahead of where I’ve written to.

The writing goes well so far. The novel has gone from 0 words committed last weekend to about 8 thousand plus words today. I’d like to make ten thousand before the weekend is over, but even if I make it, I have to be realistic about expectations. Part of the reason I managed to eek out seven thousand words Monday through yesterday was because I was off from work Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Even with just two days at the office this week, and yesterday only a partial day with the fiasco with Kim’s tires, I didn’t get a chance to commit anything. I think I have to face the conclusion that most of my writing will be happening on the weekends in furious, long winded sessions, and anything else I manage to write is just bonus. On the upside, I sat down this morning and wrote a thousand words, so that’s positive.

While I’m speaking of writing and fantasy, I just want to give a quick shout out to Realms of Fantasy (http://www.rofmag.com/). No, I have no affiliation with them, no, they haven’t published me (or rejected me even ๐Ÿ™‚ ), but they are a recognized leader in the fantasy magazine world. Check them out, and if you like what you see, consider subscribing ($19.99 a year). They’ve published a lot of big names and no names, but they’re currently facing a subscriber crisis (and without subscribers, sales are hard to justify investment given the mercurial world of newsstand purchasing). There’s also a banner link for them at the top of my blog currently – and no, I don’t get anything in return for the banner, I didn’t request my free issue for advertising them because, frankly, I don’t think I have the readership to justify it. You lot are great, but let’s face it, my little blog where I whine about writing and real life doesn’t have mass appeal. So – if you like fantasy, and like short stories, take a peek. Maybe you’ll like what you see, maybe not.

OK, off to see if I can cram some more writing in. Tara and I have been alone together today while the older girls went to a Girl Scout thing at Busch Gardens. You’d think that would mean a day free to write, but reality is it means I’ve had a talkative, needy, best buddy. And it’s been great ๐Ÿ™‚
