nanwrimo check in, day 17

OK, admittedly the claim that I would make a blog post every day until I hit 50k has fallen a bit short – but from the mugshot, you can at least see I’m holding steadfast to the claim that I won’t shave until then 🙂 . On the missing days, its either been a matter of my not writing at all (weak escape clause, I know), or my having to make a choice between writing until I conk out (the other night, I actually fell asleep typing and woke up to discover I had started transcribing a dream…sick, sick, and true).

Although its day 17, today’s post is actually for last night, where I inched just a bit closer to the 40k mark (37,324 words so far). Last night was, to say the least, fantastical and exciting for me. My fears of hitting the doldrums were swept aside, at least for the night. I got home a bit late (9:20ish after stopping by the grocery store for an ingredient in stone soup for Anna), watched Big Bang Theory while eating dinner (one must have comic relief, and there is no greater relief these days than Big Bang Theory), and so around 10ish I sat down to type. An hour and a half later, I had 3,161 new bits in my story, and my brain didn’t even want me to stop there! If I could have, I would have kept going into the morning, but there’s this annoying thing called work (which I love, but more on that later today I think) that pays the bills and stuff, so I had to draw the line somewhere.

The scary thing is that glancing back at those 3k words, I see gaps where I had to skip ahead to keep my fingers in sync with my brain, ie, there is room for more words in the immediate future just on what I worked on last night. If only my muse would let me – driving into work today I had a series of scenes play out in my head (and taking notes while driving is frowned upon) that I now need to transcribe somewhere. I’m giving serious thought to dragging my old MP3 player out of retirement for the soul purpose of being able to do voice recordings so I don’t lose these bits of dialog and concepts by the time I’m at a keyboard again.

Which is why I must draw this post to a close now, because I only have fifteen or so minutes to note down what I was thinking on the way to work before my day has to begin in earnest.
