nanowrimo (and life) checkin

Well, another day is finally here. I’m not sure if its my new medication, or the horrfic schedule I’ve been keeping at work this week, but its been tough to get anything written for #nanowrimo (or even do more than go home and collapse into sleep). I eeked out about a thousand words yesterday, which is ok since I have a nice buffer to work with, but is a sure sign that the coming weeks are going to be tough to get the next 24k done.

I’m quite pleased with how things are developing in the story, and have at least a half dozen chapters mapped out in my head that I haven’t committed fingers to keyboard on yet, so that’s good. As you can tell by today’s mugshot, a week and half into this and I’m already looking like a scruffy nurf herder. One of the chapters I really need to accomplish today is an early one in the course of the novel. I’ve kind of let myself go a little haphazard, writing wherever the muse leads me, which has resulted in some characters having a lot to say, and others just barely sketched out so far. I may alter my blogged promise to not shave until I finish #nanowrimo with an addendum – not till I finish the first draft of this book (at which point, Sr.Goatee will resurface – no more babyface for me!). When I hit the 50k mark I’d like to post a day 1/last day photo comparison, but you can probably get that just from looking in the blog archives.

OK, lunch break’s over, but having failed to blog every day, I had to get at least something up today. All you nanowrimo’s out there, keep trucking! I may have had an early flourish in numbers, but that’s because I knew between holidays, birthdays, and planned events the rest of my month was going to make it exceedingly difficult to finish in time. Later all,

~Mike
