Progress Updates

I promised you July would be a month to keep an eye out for – well, here we go!

Writing

I’m still on track with the novel WIP. With the realization that there were missing scenes, I’ve had to re-evaluate some things for my second focus character. I think I have everything in order, the outline is shaping up(!), and I have the first 2k written of the missing material. Its entirely possible at this point that my novel, which I had originally targeted to be about 80k and came about 9k short, will in fact reach that original goal when all is said and done.

Submitting

Still doing that, though I need to take some time to finish one of the half dozen stories that are floating in the brainspace at the moment. I find it kind of curious, but for once in my attempt at writing my brain is maintaining a distinctly impenetrable membrane between the different stories. Also somewhat of a relief, since the last thing I need in my New Goddess story is a visit from the Frog King vs the Snakeskins story line.

However, to keep the spirit alive, I did submit the Frog King to another e-zine in the early hours of the morning.

Other news

Well, I promised other things this month, what with me working from home all month. I have to admit, I had a lot of buffer time in my estimate for this project, just in case, and thank goodness. In my first week of working from home, I’ve had a holiday and multiple distractions from the office, including a side track to update some code I hadn’t intended on looking at until this Fall. Oh well, right?

So I guess the big thing in the “Other news” column would be the fact that yesterday afternoon (Friday) I had my first appointment with a physical trainer.

No, I haven’t gotten rich and moved to Bel Air, where I dine on caviar while waiting for Jeffries to fetch the car. Still in Fredneck, eating regular, unfishy eggs and acting as taxi to the kids. But, my wife and I looked at the budget, then at my waistline, and we figured out where we could take a dip in one to put a dent in the other.  Like I hinted at before, part of what makes this feasible is the fact that I’m working from home this month. That means being able to get into the gym and back to the house again before anyone needs me for work, while still establishing it as a lifestyle pattern.

And that’s life in Casa Cummings this morning. I think we have a game of Anna’s RPG today (she made the pieces, rules, the works), probably another game or two, some writing, and the minutia of life with three kids, a dog, and a loving wife. (awww) Have a good one, I’m off to get some much needed coffee!
