Daily Round Up

While I try and decide what the point of this blog is any more (it isn't to act as a journal - I'm actually using, gasp, a paper journal system), I thought I would make my pre-shower RSS read worthwhile and link out some of the big things from the morning catch-up. And now, in random order...

  • First up, the Hawaii Chair does indeed freak me out
  • Another undersea cable appears to have been cut. This makes five. Five. In a week. WTH?? How is it ship anchors are suddenly hitting and destroying these things? Smells of conspiracy to me.
  • Finally, a clue about Tara's language development process may be found in this slashdot article. I still wonder if its possible for a 1 year old to have hypergraphia.
  • For those of you tired of tapping your mouse every so often to see if you have a new mail icon flashing at you, our friends over at Make have built a real flag that raises when you have mail waiting. Gee, that's great! A new way to be even more tied to my computer. Yes, I realize there are those snow globe things that light up, but those were commercial products that people could force on you. This is someone actually going out and complicating their lives on purpose, and with effort!
  • Modern Mechanix gives us two great innovations this morning. First, we have the pipe holster, great for any smoking shoot outs you might be in. We also get as a bonus feature what may be one of the earliest articles on the first answering machine, though I was half ready for the author to make some snotty comment about the woman in the photo being the real one to answer and record the phone (we were so hip back then).
  • WriteToDone gives us 5 good tips on making our writing a bit more succinct and appealing to readers, and finally
  • for all you GTD'ers out there (that's Getting Things Done for those of you not on this bandwagon yet), LifeHacker has a clip from 60minutes where Andy Rooney introduces us to his organization system, which stinks an awful lot like all of the other GTD systems out there, only more anecdotal.

Now, before I forget it, zenhabits had an interesting article yesterday called "11 Ways To Expand Your Mind And Recover From Brain Rot" which in some ways parallels with the unstated (or maybe obviously stated) goals of the whole selfv2 thing. Good read at any rate.

And now I'm off for the morning, because nothing says good morning like spending the time you were supposed to be getting ready blogging instead of showering and making lunches and driving to the office :)

If you thought this rambled...

About mcummings

Michael is happily married and the proud father of three girls. He acknowledges that that means that as soon as they hit their teens, the bathroom will be lost forever and his hypertension will go through the roof as he hunts down a shotgun. In the meantime, he enjoys tinkering with Linux (former Gentoo dev, w00t), fixing his frankenparts PC, and attempting to write stories that are worthy of reading (a ways to go on that one). Its nice to have aspirations at least :)
