Ebbing towards the end of this draft

It’s been a long haul. After a solid two months of writing every day, the last week has seen 3 zero word days. The first one was work related – the fun just kept piling on on Friday. Saturday we had company over, and I slacked in the morning. Yesterday was waylaid emotionally by some bad news.

Admittedly, so far today is off to no better a start. So many things in the outside world distracting me from writing. So much, in fact, that I hope by writing this blog post to get the fingers and synapses firing a little bit again,  I can put some words down. I still have next Tuesday as my target date for finishing this draft, which almost seems reasonable. I was running a little ahead of schedule, so according to Scrivener’s math I just need to write @1370 a day for the next week to finish 70k in time.  Some quick thoughts ont hat:

  • First, I think I can do that. The last few days I did write, I was averaging 1500 a day. If I can keep that up for a week, I’ll be ahead again and at my target goal by next Tuesday.
  • Second, though, is that I’m not sure I’ll be done by next Tuesday. Not because I won’t reach 70k, but because I think this story is going to be a little longer than that.
  • Third? Bah. I know I should have a third point, but perhaps my brain is still a bit exhausted.

So if you don’t want to do the math, I’m currently at @59k, which is almost long enough for a traditional novel. If I was anywhere near a concluding point, that is. Here’s hoping this week picks up.
