I blame Rocket Raccoon.

When I was a kid, I read the entire short line of Rocket Raccoon.

A few years ago, I got a great deal on Marvel Unlimited and so, for a year, I read a large swath of Marvel’s back catalog, including a revisit to Rocket Raccoon. Needless to say, it didn’t live up to the hype of nostalgia, but it was still great to see. That’s also when I discovered that he had been revived as part of the Guardians of the Galaxy, a series that was actually a lot of fun.

So when they said a movie was coming out, I was on top of it. Our oldest two kids, also big comic fans in their own ways, were on board. The more ads we saw, the more we were ready. I even did the unthinkable – I bought opening day tickets for the three of us.

We had it all planned. I’d have an evening with the older two, a light dinner, snacks at the theater. Mom would stay home with the youngest, do some bonding, watching Home Alone 2 (youngest’s choice movie), all would be good.

If only opening day was the same day as they blasted in all of the ads. You see, I’m sitting here, on Friday morning, looking at a Fandango pass for three tickets for opening day. Thursday night.

I knew I had a tough choice to make – disappoint two kids that have been looking forward to this since before summer began, or try and get more tickets. Of course, the first thing I did was call the theater, but it was too early in the day. And back on Fandango, there’s a little countdown that says if I want tickets to this afternoon’s show, I have less than six minutes to buy them.

Bah. Panicking, I succumb and buy them. Only to discover moments later that the theater will honor them. OK, its been less than a minute since the transaction was recorded, there’s still a chance if I act fast Fandango can help me out and cancel my second order. Except their system is in maintenance mode right now, sorry, try again later this afternoon when it won’t do you any good.

So much for 24/7 support, eh? And here we are with three extra tickets. Now it’s more imperative than ever that this show doesn’t fail to live up to the hype, because these have become some really expensive tickets.

BTW, going to see a movie today 😉
