A writing poll of sorts – words per diem

I just did something brazen. It will probably get me black listed in a few places on twitter, but what the heck. One of the things new writers (self included) obsess over is word counts. Personally, I’m of two minds on the subject in a way that would make Jekyll and Hyde proud, wavering between thinking they’re meaningless to obsessing over how many I can squeeze into a day.

What did I do? I just trolled through the top 28 writers in my twitter list and asked them all the exact same question:

“@soandso  – stupid writing poll – when writing fiction, how many words a day do you avg? (word count curious)(will blog if that’s ok) “

I’ve already gotten back 7 response (which considering I asked only a few minutes ago is really humbling). I’ll give this a day or two (not everyone watches their twitter accounts obsessively after all) and post as much of the results as I can here. For anyone that saw my question but I didn’t ask, ping me, I’d be happy to include you. For anyone that I pinged and was curious who I was first – I promise, no harm or foul intended with your answers 🙂
