Upgrading my ears

Working from home has had its own unique requirements and changes to The Way I Work(tm). One of those changes has been the need to be able to cut myself off from the rest of the house so I can focus on work – and so I don’t drive my wife mad with the constant background noise (she’s of that odd ilk that prefer to work in…silence).

Up till now, I’ve had a pair of Skullcandy over-the-ear headphones that I just loved. They fit my noggin, the padding was soft, and they sounded good to my untuned ears. The only problem was that between the kids, the dog (its complicated), and myself, they are starting to fall apart. The plastic parts of the head band have been taped back together, but even so, they are starting to fall apart. In fact it, was high time I went out and bought a new pair.

I could have gotten the same headphones and been happy, but this was my chance to step it up. If it were an option, I wanted to go wireless, but in my budget. After some hemming and hawing and review searching, I finally settled on a pair of Photive Bluetooth Headphones.

LobotI am not disappointed.

I was nervous they might not fit my head (I’ve had that problem before), but in the end they fit just fine. I feel like Lobot from Cloud City though – without touching my keyboard, I can adjust volume, play, and fast forward/rewind. They do a great job of cutting off the outside world, and I’m finally free of draping wires! And no more scratching at the back of my computer to plug in my headphones when I need them, then unplug when I don’t, etc. – they only cut off the speakers when they’re on.
