And now, to sleep

Posted by mcummings

A brief post given the late hour, but I just had to give a quick shout out that I hit the 50k mark tonight. I will have a "real" blog post about this later (probably after T-Day) about the merits of having a voice recorder on a long commute, but the short of it is that I am closing up for the night in middle of a chapter and over the 50k mark. I'll try and get some more words into the system before the end of the month, but I have officially met the goal of #nanowrimo.

And, as promised, we have the before and after photos!

Day 0 Day 23 [50k words later]

Look there! Transformation from a boy to a man in 23 days!! Also note the severe lack of sleep in those eyes towards the end. You saw it here first. Now. I can shave!! (or do I wait till the novel is really completed...?)

Late R.I.P, Ferris

Posted by mcummings

By accident, I just found out that fmccor, aka Ferris McCormick, passed away this August. I remember fmccor fondly, and am sad to hear this. Damn, that's a bummer.

Cheating (my paradigm)

Posted by mcummings

I have this notion that a novel must be written in a certain fashion, by starting on page one, then page two, and progressing forward in an iterative fashion until I reach the end (or in the case of nanowrimo, fifty thousand words).

Synopsis

Posted by mcummings

Yes, there are other things I could be doing, like contributing to my word count, but for fun I finally wrote a synopsis for my current #nanowrimo WIP. The irony is, I didn't even have the epiphany of the deeper story until my drive in today.

When the Universe was young, Titans roamed between the protostars like Gods. An aging Universe forced these Titans into seclusion in artificial singularities, where they could maintain the environment of a young Universe. In their passing they left behind vast intelligent machines as custodians, to protect their homes until conditions were again hospitable.
For a time the custodians watched over the younger species, keeping their promise to protect the home of their Creators. But after countless aeons, even these machines have begun to fail, and like Pandora humanity has unsealed a ward left to protect it from the competition. Even as the cacophony of cannons sound, one band of humans blindly seeks the exegesis that will save them before humanity is annihilated.

A brief moment of geek fame :)

Read the description and smile as you wonder about the identity I've kept secret all these years ;)
